As the legal owner of a vehicle you must ensure that when scrapping your vehicle you receive a Certificate of Destruction. This is a legal requirement as it informs the DVLA that you no longer own the vehicle. Failures to do this means YOU are liable for the road tax for the rest of your life or completing it as sorn every year. This also stops unscrupulous people using your old vehicles details to run their vehicles on the road, as again you are liable for the speeding tickets etc.
